School Fitness

We aim to significantly improve the understanding of health, well-being and physical education within the school community. By working alongside staff and parents, we can inspire and achieve a positive perception of a healthy lifestyle whilst allowing pupils to be more active. We aim to achieve this by introducing you to our latest programme... SHAPE.

School Health and Physical Education

Our latest innovation delivers health and well-being assessments, supportive data with recommendations along with educational interventions to primary aged pupils.

Additionally, we offer schools a wide range of services including PPA cover, INSET for staff development, Staff Fitness Club, Well-Being Workshops and Family Fitness Clubs.

The SHAPE package includes assessments, bespoke interventions and analysis of the impact of SHAPE.

Health Assessments

This is the first step of the SHAPE Health Assessment. Pupils are quizzed on key areas of how to lead a healthy lifestyle to ascertain their understanding of health and well-being. The second step of the SHAPE Health Assessment involves the pupils participating in a timed fitness test. Their completed distance is recorded as a base line of their physical fitness.

At the end of each term, these assessment is repeated and the impact of health interventions on the pupils is analysed.

Well-Being Assessment

The Well-Being Assessment is suitable for Years 5 and 6 pupils. Questions based on the ‘Rosenberg Self-Esteem’ tool are used to provide baseline data of the pupils’ well-being.

At the end of each term, the assessment is repeated and the impact of the health interventions on the pupils’ well-being is analysed.

Analysis

The assessment data is used to highlight key findings, support recommendations and ensures that the school receives tailored interventions based on their pupil’s needs. The data is used to create a report which is shared with the Headteacher and key members of staff.

From the SHAPE Pupil Assessment Analysis, we suggest which SHAPE Intervention is most suitable for the school to improve their health and well-being;

INTERVENTION 1: (2 hours weekly per term)

A series of interactive, cross curricular and inclusive activites that encourage pupils, staff and families to make healthy lifestyle choices. Sessions include;

School Health Lessons

- Focus on key areas such as nutrition, sleep and physical activity

- Ensure every session is inclusive

- Encourage pupils, staff and families in making healthy lifestyle choices

Physical Education Sessions

- Outdoor Bootcamps

- Team Building games

- Fitness sessions

INTERVENTION 2: (1 hour weekly per term)

The school selects whether they would like the School Health lessons or Physical Education sessions.

Whichever option a school selects, at the end of each term the SHAPE Assessments are repeated to ascertain the impact of the interventions and to make further recommendations.

I  usually do a 2km run at the weekends with my family.
Since the SHAPE assessment, I now realise I need to challenge myself and try to go further. So this weekend, we're all going to try and run 5km as a family. Thank you Mr Colchester!
